I’ve been a freelance
editor, proofreader, and occasional back-of-the-book indexer to the
book-publishing industry since I began this second career in 1999.
Over that time, I’ve worked on everything from psychology journals,
grammar textbooks, and religious studies monographs to young adult
(YA) and literary fiction, government commission reports, and current
events books.
Books I have edited have
won the Shaughnessy Cohen Award for Political Writing, the
Pearson Writer’s Trust Non-fiction Prize, the Winterset Award, and
Lambda Literary Awards, and have been short- or longlisted for the
Booker Prize, the Giller Prize, the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary
Non-fiction, the Rogers Writer’s Trust Fiction Prize, the Trillium
Book Award, the City of Vancouver Book Award, the ReLit Award, the
National Business Book Award, and CBA Libris Awards.
I currently specialize
in stylistic editing, copy editing, and proofreading of adult and YA
fiction and trade nonfiction and I also do manuscript evaluation of
fiction. Find out more about these different kinds of editing on my Services
page.

I live in downtown
Toronto, Canada, with my husband and three children. Contrary to
stereotype, I do not own a cat and I don’t work in my pyjamas, but I
have been spotted wearing a cardigan. Learn more about why I might
be the right editor for you, on my Background
page.
